Development, Context, and Communication Lab

The Development, Context and Communication Lab conducts research on children’s and adolescents’ cognitive and social development to better understand memory and how people share their experiences with others.

In the Development, Context, and Communication Lab, we investigate a wide range of interesting research questions about children’s and adolescents’ cognitive and social development. These questions include:

  • What do children and teens say about the past and why?
  • What are the best ways to ask children and teens about their experiences to encourage accuracy?
  •  How do people’s life experiences shape how they view the world and other people?
  • How can knowledge of children’s and teens’ cognitive and social development help those who work with children and teens every day?
  • How do parents, peers, and friends influence teens’ decision-making?

Our research not only helps advance scientific understanding of youth development but also helps address “real world” issues by providing information to professionals who conduct important work with youth every day (for example, teachers, police officers, social workers, legal professionals).
